Shadow edges

Graphite Works
I learnt the six basic strokes with a pencil and then had to complete an assignment using those strokes to create this picture. Its so amazing to see what a wonderful drawing can be produced just by using the basic strokes with a pencil. neer knew these amazing qualities of the pencil :)

The first drawing (assignment) ar I learnt how to use shading in different tonal values to create three dimensional images

My first project. The best way to learn how to create textures and incorporate minute details in a drawing. Unfortunately this was going to be graded so could not take any chances. Fortunately I got an A for this :)

I decided to take a break from the course to see if I could use what I learnt to produce three dimensional images without any instructions. I was successful and then decided to take up the next level of the course

But before the next class started there was some time on hand. So i decided to utilise it to practice some more. Suddenly I saw that "Drawing Day" was coming up and the idea is to collect 1 million drawings from artists all over the world. I thought of submitting something myself. Till then never knew such a day existed :). I realised that we come a know a lot more about an area of interest once we join some community where there are other people sharing the same interest

I still had some more time on the next class started and decided to ce my difficult piece. Unfortunately many things came up and I left this drawing aside. Then when I decided to complete it I did complete but not to my saifaction. Anyways though not bad I was not completely satisfied with it

Another shading assignment " The Urn" that was part of the shading course. I did this pretty late as it was not included in my earlier course material

My next level class started where I enrolled myself to learn portraiture. The first excercise was ofcourse to learn parts of the face individually. Still working with the (magical) pencil :)

The next assignment was to create the portait of a small girl. And I was thinking "Portrait already?" Just learned to draw the basic shapes. And with some flaws in my first attempt I could draw a beautiful portrait in pencil. I love this peice. Moreso because my art instructor thought that it was stunning and wanted to include it in her course notes

The comments I got from my art instructor on this were "Hi Deepti, this is absolutely gorgeous!  I would really love to have this drawing in my course notes. The idea is that the image demonstrates a high standard of drawing to inspire other course participants to also reach a similar high standard. Well done on an outstanding portrait."

Now this was a huge encouragement :)

Here officially my work with pencil ends in the course. Ofcourse now knowing all the magical qualities of the pencil I am not going to stop. But now I have to go ahead and learn another medium "Charcoal"

Below are some of the paintings that I did before I joined the online course. This was just as a pastime.
